Throughout the year the Burgess Foundation hosts events at our home, the converted engine room of a 200 year-old mill in Manchester. Our venue celebrates a diverse range of culture including literature, music, comedy, film, science, history and more. Events in Spring 2025
Concert: EMPOWER – Female Musical Icons | Saturday 8 March, 7pm, £5 | In an evening of powerful performances and thought-provoking conversation, EMPOWER celebrate and showcase the breadth and diversity of female music (more information).
Talk: Greater Manchester FASD Network Roadshow | Wednesday 12 March, 10am, free | An opportunity to connect and share information with parents, carers, professionals, and community with experience of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (more information).
Concert: An Evening of Song | Friday 14 March, 7pm, £17.50 | A showcase of classical repertoire from baroque to 21st century music, starring a cast of up-and-coming performers (more information).
Talk: Newcomen Present Stories from the Life and Work of Dr Walter Marshall | Tuesday 18 March, 6:30pm, free | Dr Walter Marshall was Director of the Atomic Energy Research Establishment, and his life and work intersected the Sizewell B enquiry, the miner’s strike and Chernobyl. His story is told by his daughter, Dr Victoria Marshall (more information).
Screening: Collyhurst Voices | Wednesday 19 March, 6pm, free | This film presents community perspectives on the history and impact of neighbourhood change and regeneration in Collyhurst, North Manchester (more information).
Literature: Justin Robertson, The Trial of Jonah | Thursday 27 March, 6:45pm, £7 | Join DJ, artist, and author Justin Robertson to celebrate the publication of his new novel The Trial of Jonah, the confessions of a time-travelling cultural vampire. Concert: Aimee Carty | Sunday 6 April, 7pm, £15 | Irish singer-songwriter Aimee Carty arrives at the Burgess Foundation after an eventful 2024 in which her song ‘2 Days into College’ went viral on TikTok (more information).
Concert: Sleeve Notes | Saturday 12 April, 6:30pm, £5 | Sleeve Notes is a collaborative performance scheduled to coincide with this year’s Record Store Day. Ten writers have teamed up with ten musicians to offer their take on how records have shaped their lives. The resulting pieces will be performed live (more information).
